Now that you’ve read about splitting ornamental grasses and removing thatch from your lawn, the next logical project would be cutting down trees and pruning trees. This may be a job where you hire someone (like me), because not everyone owns a chainsaw and even less are proficient in its use.
The reason tree work should be done now – late winter – is 1.) there is no underbrush, 2.) your plants in flower beds are dormant so you won’t be breaking off stems and flowers, and 3.) there is less cleanup since there are no leaves on the trees.
There’s nothing like seeing your property in late spring when plants and grass awaken to more sunlight than last year. The plants will reward you by growing bigger and having more blooms.
